April 20, 1918 — August 19, 2006

Marie Reed Aliff, 88, of Pax, WV passed away on Friday, August 19, 2006 in Myrtle Beach, SC in the company of her loving daughter, son-in-law, granddaughters and great granddaughter. Born on April 20, 1918 she was the daughter of the late Andrew Wilson and Anna Small Reed from Greenbrier County, WV. After moving from Greenbrier County to Fayette County, Marie married her husband, Homer Aliff. Marie was a homemaker and a longtime active member of the Long Branch Methodist Church, where she had previously served as President of the Woman’s Auxiliary and held numerous other positions in the church. Marie was also active in the Pax Community. In her earlier years she was involved in the Pax school system, both in academics and extracurricular events. This may have been when she developed such a great love of sports, basketball in particular. Marie had many hobbies. She enjoyed attending auctions and shopping for antiques. She also had a love of cooking. She was best known for her homemade chocolate cake. Almost more than anything, she enjoyed attending races with her husband. The couple started on the dirt track circuit; however, throughout their marriage, Marie and Homer attended races at various tracks for nearly 50 years, including 30 years at both the Daytona International Speedway and the Indianapolis Speedway. Most importantly, Marie was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who never hesitated to “brag” about any of her children’s accomplishments and always put the welfare of her family before her own. “Our Granny” left us with many memories. we learned so much through her life lessons and displays of unconditional love that will be cherished and honored for eternity.” Marie was a loving mother to her daughter, Diana Tate Neiman and her husband, Barry Neiman of Myrtle Beach, SC and an extremely adored grandmother by her two granddaughters, Debbie Tate and Becky Tate and her two great-grandchildren, Toni Marie and William Harrison. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 22, 2006 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, and WV. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Long Branch United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Holley officiating.
