Marie Payne Akers

Marie Payne Akers, 96, of Oak Hill passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the Oak Hill Place in Oak Hill.

Born July 27, 1928 in Blue Jay, WV. she as the daughter of the late Adam and Ocie Dobbins Payne.

Marie was a 1946 graduate from Shady Springs High School, she went on to graduate from Concord Colle with a Bachelors Degree and a Masters degree from West Virginia University in Elementary Education. She retired from working as a Elementary teacher working in Mercer, Raleigh and Fayette County. Marie was a member of the Oak Hill United Methodist Church, Women's Club, 3777 Circle and the Fayette Study Club.

Along with her parents she is also preceded in death by her loving husband Dr. Charles Akers.

Those left to cherish her wonderful memory include her sister-in-law, Lois Akers Mustard; nephew, Charles "Chuck" Mustard; and special friends, David and Karen Doner.

Funeral service will be 12 Noon on Friday, August 9, 2024, at the Oak Hill United Methodist Church with Dr. Ken Krimmel officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

Visitation for friends will be one hour prior to service at the Oak Hill United Methodist Church on Friday, August 9, 2024.
