Margaret Janney Vargo born in Princeton, Mercer County, West Virginia on September 18, 1923 and passed away Saturday, March 13, 2004 following a long illness. She graduated from Oak Hill High School then went to Mountain State College at Parkersburg, WV where she graduated with a business degree and belonged to the Alpha Iota sorority. Margaret was the secretary to the Treasurer of New River Coal Company for twelve years. On July 2, 1948 she was married to Dr. John Wilson Vargo after his return from serving in the Marine Corps during World War II. She was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Oak Hill where she served in multiple areas including the Altar Guild and choir. She was also a member of the Junior Women's Club, White Oak Garden Club, Fayette Study Club and many bridge clubs. She was preceded in death by her parents, Osborne Castle and Bessie Barberie Janney; two daughters, Jan Elizabeth Vargo and Barbara Ann Vargo Rogers and her husband, Dr. Charles Rogers and granddaughter Kelly Marie in May of 1980. Survivors include her husband, Dr. John Wilson Vargo; her children, Dr. James Wilson Vargo and wife, Lori Vargo, of Beckley, Dr. John Wesley Vargo and wife, Dr. Dianna Lenick, Charleston, Dr. Jill Scott Vargo and her husband, Dr. Tony Sciara, of Ashville, NC; her grandchildren, Jacqueline Ann Martin and her husband, Paul Martin, of Weston, CT, John Austin and Morgan Lynn Vargo of Charleston, Chelsea Nicole and Christian Scott Vargo of Beckley; one sister, Nancy Janney Massey and her husband, Cecil, of Curnavaca, Mexico; and one brother, Dr. John D. Janney and his wife, Sally, of Oak Hill. Services at 11 AM Monday, March 16, 2004 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Oak Hill with Rev. Roy Crist officiating. Friends may call from 6 until 8 PM, Sunday evening, March 15, 2004 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill. Pallbearers will be David Janney II, Joe Mollric, Lee Newell, Dr. Ryan Newell, Justin Vargo, and Scott Vargo. Honorary pallbearers will be John Frazier, Pat Hamilton, Charlie Miller, Jeff Monroe, Dr. Donald Newell and Bill Preston. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Oak Hill.
