Margaret Helen Sweet Mannon

October 4, 1916 — July 4, 2011

A loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother went home to be with the Lord Monday, July 4, 2011 following a long illness. Helen Mannon of Garten, WV was born in Elmo, WV October 4, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Edward and Essie Hazel Donnally Sweet. Helen attended Gum Springs Baptist Church in Chimney Corner. She enjoyed reading the Bible, raising her grandchildren, and spending time with her cat Baby. Her favorite pastime was spent crocheting, quilting, and gardening. A quilt is used for warmth and is stitched together with love, care, and thoughtfulness. Nana was a “quilt” to her grandchildren. The devotion given to them is immeasurable. There was never a dull moment, never a tear left to dry on a face, or a need left unattended. She was always there for each and everyone of them. In addition to her loving parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Mannon, two sisters, Faye Dixon, and Virginia Kincaid, and brother, Joseph Sweet. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter ,Jonetta Mason and husband, Tom of Oak Hill. She will be greatly missed by her 4 grandchildren, Jonna Mason of Walnut Cove, NC, Tonna Mason of Walnut Cove, NC, Morgan Clark and her husband, Rodney of Kernersville, NC, and Rusty Mason and fiancée, Katie of Oak Hill, 1 great-granddaughter, Kiley Mason of Oak Hill, and a loving and caring niece, Betsy Lesher and husband, Denny of Lansing. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. David Sneed officiating. Friends may call 1 hour prior to service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
