Margaret E. Helton

Margaret Evelyn Bailey Helton , 92, of Mount Hope, WV died on Monday, December 08, 2008 at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV. Born February 26, 1916 at Skelton, WV she was the daughter of the late Emmett and Mary Maschal Bailey. Mrs. Helton was a member of the Mount Hope Christian Church where she served faithfully as choir director, Sunday school teacher and church treasurer for many years. She was active in the women's work of the church, had served as President of the CWF and the Arminta Philathea Class. She was currently a member of the Women's Christian Fellowship at the church where she served as treasurer for 28 years. She and her husband were active in the youth programs of the church and served many years as leaders of the Christian Youth Fellowship. Margaret and J.B. were faithful workers in the Oak Grove Christian Church for 8 years and were charter members of the Oak Hill Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, J.B. Helton.; four brothers, Bill, Marlin, Russell and Jack Bailey and one sister, Lois Bailey. Survivors include three sons, Jim Helton and wife, Bonnie of Mount Hope, Jerry L. Helton and wife, Drema of Mount Hope and Tom Helton of Bluefield, VA. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Beloved grandchildren include Debbie Helton, Carol Mottram and Sharon Helton of Sacramento, CA; Jerry Helton, Jr. and wife, Amy of Beckley; Jason Helton of Layland; Matthew Helton of Bluefield, VA; step-grandchildren, Dave Pack of Sullivan Road and Lisa Oakes of Cool Ridge. Cherished great grandchildren include Michael Tessmann of Mount Hope, Daniel Helton of Sacramento, CA, Justin Helton of Pax, Jamie Helton of Beckley and Jonas Helton of Beckley. Services will be on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope with Minister Julian Grubb and Minister Merle Pope officiating. Entombment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Prosperity WV. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
