Margaret Brown Gladwell, age 97, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Autumn Care Nursing Home in Statesville, NC surrounded by her children.
She was born November 23, 1918 in Winona, WV. She was the daughter of the late Fletcher Esley Brown and Beatrice Stover Brown of Oak Hill, WV.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, E.A. (Blackie) Gladwell Jr.; one brother, Fletcher Esley Brown Jr.; and son-in-law, Bill Coleman.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Paul Esley Gladwell and wife, Pat, of Waynesboro, VA and daughter, Joyce G. Coleman of Troutman, NC.
She is also survived by grandchildren Stanley S. Smeltzer, III and his wife, Melinda, of Smithfield, VA, John P. Gladwell and his wife, Lisa, of Waynesboro, VA, Shannon S. Duffy and her husband, Mike, of Gilbertsville, KY, Stefanie S. Ziolkowski and her husband, Matthew, of Troutman, NC, Jerry E. Gladwell and his wife, Angie, of Manassas, VA and ten great grandchildren, Courtney Smeltzer, Stan Smeltzer, Claire Smeltzer, Kalessin Duffy, Lyra Duffy, Zayne Ziolkowski, Kade Ziolkowski, Alice Gladwell, Scott Gladwell and Lydia Gladwell.
Her sister, Jo Ann Palumbo and husband, Pat, of Macedonia, OH also survive her.
Margaret was a secretary, homemaker and, with a real zest for life, she loved to bowl and golf. In her golden years - she and her husband spent time golfing together. However, her greatest passion was painting. Her oil paintings grace the walls of her families as well as many friends and acquaintances. She learned to paint in her late sixties and spent many years creating her art works.
Mrs. Gladwell was a long time member of Amity Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC.
A private graveside service will be held at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill, WV.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Amity Presbyterian Church, 2831 North Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte, NC 28205.
