Mable McKinney Wilson

Mable Wilson, 83, of Corinne, WV, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, February 1, 2025, at home with her children by her side.

Born on March 2, 1941, in Stephenson, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late David and Maxine (Lusk) McKinney. Mable was the fifth of 12 siblings who steadfastly loved and supported one another. On September 20, 1962, she married her husband of 54 years, Glen Wilson, who preceded her in death on April 28, 2017.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mable was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Bailey; two brothers, Junior McKinney and Elbert McKinney; four sisters, Cora Stewart, Ollie Poe, Pauline Stewart, and infant, Mary Louise McKinney; eight brothers-in-law, George Adkins, Berman Whitt, Charles Stewart, June Poe, Neely Stewart, Jerry Wilson, Don Simmons, and Howard Wrenn; two sisters-in-law, Kitty McKinney and Ethel McKinney; her father-in-law, Kay Wilson; and her mother-in-law, Velva Wilson.

Left behind to cherish her memory are daughters, Connie Cook of Taylor’s, SC, and Renee Bailey and her husband Donny, of Statesville, NC; son, Kevin Wilson and his wife, Adriane, of Ghent, WV; 11 grandchildren, Ryan Cook and his wife, Jaclyn, of Greer, SC, Rachel Tolley and her husband, Aaron, of Daleville, VA, Nicholas Bailey and his wife, Jordan, of Chapel Hill, NC, Brian Locklear, of Morgantown, WV, Heaven Wilson, Brooklynn Locklear, Isabella Wilson, Annie Wilson, Liam Wilson, Lucy Wilson, and Charleigh Locklear, of Ghent, WV; three great-grandchildren, Austin Cook, Callen Cook, and Amelia “Mia” Tolley; brother, James McKinney, of Stephenson, WV; sisters, Meldie Whitt, of Beckley, WV, Dorothy Adkins, of Mullens, WV, Nina Clay (Dallas), of Beckley, WV, and Charlotte McKinney (Danny), of Stephenson, WV; sisters-in-law, Wanda McKinney, of Stephenson, WV, Yvonne Wilson, of Otsego, WV, Brenda Newsome (Rob), of Shady Spring, WV, Sharon Simmons, of Corinne, WV, and Vickie Wrenn, of Corinne, WV; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Mable’s career was in childcare. Her gift with children was far-reaching, loving and nurturing generations of children. When parents left their children in Mable’s home, they walked away assured that their babies were loved and tended to as they themselves would. She was a “baby whisperer,” and she spoke to and smiled warmly to every child she met, even briefly at stores and restaurants.

Mable’s faith in Jesus Christ was what stood out most about her. She was a longstanding member of Corinne Pentecostal Church of God, where she served the congregation in any capacity she could. She was the same woman of consistent faith in the church building as she was in everyday life. The biggest testament to the genuineness of her faith was that friends and even strangers could count on her to pray for them fervently and faithfully in a spirit of love for them and deep trust in her Savior.

In keeping with Mable’s wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes interred beside her husband’s at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum.

A memorial service will be held for her at Corinne Pentecostal Church of God in Corinne, WV, Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 1:00 p.m., with Vernon Sears officiating.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern West Virginia as well as her two caregivers, Ashley Kennedy and Wanda Carter.
