Luther Lee Sanger

Luther Lee Sanger, 81, of Mount Hope passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, at his residence with his family by his side.

Born March 7, 1943 in Calloway, WV he was the son of the late Elmer and Sadie Milam Sanger.

Luther retired from working in the coal mines , he was a member and a Deacon of the Mt. Hope Baptist Temple. In his leisure he enjoyed fishing, ginseng, rabbit and squirrel hunting, listen to old Gospel Hymns, gardening especially his flower garden which he loved to plant his flowers in; Most of all he loved being surrounded by his family. 

Along with his parents Elmer and Cena Sanger he is also preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce Ann Treadway Sanger; grandson, Jacob Underwood; great granddaughter, Lillian Bennett; brothers, Glen Sanger, Tom Sanger, Gene Sanger, Teddy Sanger, and David Sanger; and sisters, Marie Sanger Hamilton and Barbara Fleshman.

Those left to cherish his wonderful memory include his loving children, Kathy Underwood and Husband Walter Underwood of Mt. Hope, Lisa Mercado and husband Miguel Mercado, and Steven L. Sanger and wife Theresa R. Sanger;  grandchildren, Kim Gunnoe and husband Justin Gunnoe of Ladson, SC, Matthew Underwood and wife Jessica Underwood of Mt. Hope, Leah R. Shrewsberry and husband Daniel C. Shrewsberry, Ashley Taylor, Brittany Coleman and companion Logan Milks, and Kristin Bennett and husband Rusty Bennett ;  great grandchildren, Leslie Gunnoe, Lily Gunnoe, Madison Underwood, Adalee Harris, Krista Shrewsberry, Danielle Shrewsberry, Nathaniel Shrewsberry, Layla Bennett, Lakelynn Bennett; brothers, Dennis Sanger of Kilsyth, WV  and Carlos Sanger of Mt. Hope; and sisters, Zella Kitchen of Uneeda, WV, Bethel Rexrode of Kilsyth, Betty Campbell of Kilsyth, Rena Gardner of Mill Creek, and Brenda Davis of Maple Fork; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Hope with Pastor Dwayne Williams and Pastor Dana Gatewood. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity.

Visitation for friends will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home in Mount Hope.
