Luther Buel "L.B." Raynes, Jr. , 85, of Oak Hill, WV passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV following a brief illness.
Born June 23, 1929 at Robson, WV he was the son of the late Luther Buel Raynes, Sr. and Clella Bess Raynes.
L.B. was a retired heavy equipment operator. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and Marine Reserves and among other commendations he earned the Marine Corps Badge for Marksmanship at the Sharpshooter level.
He was a member of Oak Hill Lodge No. 120 A.F. and A.M. and recently received his 56 year membership pin.
An avid sports fan, he loved WVU sports particularly following the Mountaineer football and basketball teams.
Music was a passion throughout his life. He sang with various groups including the Robson Boys Quartet along with his brother Kenneth (Gail.)
The two things he valued most in life were his strong Christian faith and love of his family. Some of happiest moments were spent with his grandchildren teaching them his gardening techniques and going hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, a brother Elmer Raynes preceded him in death.
L.B. leaves behind a loving and devoted family which includes his wife of 64 years, Frances Yurich Raynes; daughter, Cathy Raynes Lively and husband, Jim Lively, Jr. of Fayetteville and their sons, Dr. Jamie Lively of Wheeling and Luke Lively of Oak Hill; son, Scott Raynes and wife, Shawnna and their daughters, Delaney and Ella Raynes all of Gulf Breeze, FL; brothers, Kenneth Raynes and wife, Pat of Robson, Bill Raynes and wife, Trula of Robson, and Larry Raynes and wife, Norma Jean of Greenville, SC; sisters, Margaret Harper of Clearmont, FL and Drema Hannah of Hilton Head, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 12:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Delmas Wolfe officiating Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
