Louie P. Stegel

In fond memory of our loving husband and father, Rev. Louie P. Stegel who went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV. Born August 08, 1917 at Slovan, PA he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Ropey Stegel. He was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA and had been employed by the Lochgelly Coal Company. Rev. Stegel was a minister for the Wesleyan Methodist Church for more than sixty years having held many positions within the church organization. Most notably was his twenty-two years as Pastor for the Summerlee Wesleyan Church. He was a US Marine Corps veteran having served in the Pacific theatre. Louie enjoyed many activities like hunting with his family, traveling with his wife and having family holiday gatherings at his home. A son, Roger Stegel; five brothers, Charlie, Frank, Joe, Jack and Bill and four sisters, Mary, Betty, Anna and Frances preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife Evelyn Lucas Stegel to whom he was united in marriage on November 13, 1937; three sons, Darrell Eugene Stegel and wife, Dixie of Oak Hill, Gary Stegel and wife, Jeanie of Oak Hill and Damon Stegel and wife, Claudia of Chattanooga, TN and three daughters, Anna James and husband, Orville of Oak Hill, Brenda Nester and husband, Kenny of Teays Valley and Connie Ferguson of Oak Hill. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, Danny, Jane, Eddie, Frank, Cindy, Lisa, Johnny, Jamie, Terra, Darrell "Butch", Wayne, Brad, Sam and Barkley as well as twenty-six great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. Services will be on November 15, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill in Oak Hill. with Rev. Robert Kincaid Rev. John Harper officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park., Oak Hill WV Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Wednesday from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
