Lewis James Higginbotham, Jr., 65, of Rt 1 Fayetteville, WV departed this life on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley, WV after a long battle with cancer. Born June 23, 1942 at Beury Mountain, WV he was the son of the late Rev. Lewis James Higginbotham, Sr. and Hazel Pennington Payne. Lewis was a member of the Harvey Chapel United Methodist Church on Salem Road. He was a 1960 graduate of Fayetteville High School and US Air Force veteran. A retired coal miner, he was a member of the UMWA. He was the owner and operator of Higginbotham Logging Company. "Bubby" enjoyed fishing, hunting and the great outdoors. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Ellen Buttrick Higginbotham and a brother, Joseph Higginbotham. Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted son, John Christopher Higginbotham and the pride of his life, his granddaughter, Ally, with whom he made his home. Also surviving him are his sisters, Elizabeth Boos, Charlotte Higginbotham and Thelma Workman all of the Salem/Gatewood area; a brother-in-law, David Buttrick and wife, Eva; a very special niece, Angel Johnson and her husband, Jason, and nephew, Davie Buttrick, as well as several other nieces and nephews and a special caregiver, Louella Vaughn. Services will be on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. Bobby Pauley officiating. Burial will be at the Bibb Cemetery, Wonderland Road at Gatewood WV with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3110 of Oak Hill.
