Rev. Leroy K. Hostutler

September 19, 1925 — May 18, 2012

Rev. Leroy Keith Hostutler, 86, of Oak Hill, WV went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 18, 2012. His death occurred at the Beckley, W.Va. VA Medical Center. He was born September 19, 1925 in Fairmont, W.Va. to the late George and Grace (Cain) Hostutler. From 1944-46, he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was stationed in New Orleans. On June 11, 1945 he married Thelma Kathleen Sigmon. They were like two peas in a pod until her death on August 23, 2011. He began working for NCR and also enjoyed working with youth at the Xenia Nazarene Church. Being involved with the youth led him to become an ordained Nazarene Pastor. He pastored several churches: Cincinnati (Brighton), Centerville and Belpre, Ohio, Loudondale, Paden City, and Oak Hill, W.Va., and served as an associate pastor at Bucyrus and Crestline. He also served on multiple local and district church boards. Leroy loved God and filled his soul through daily readings of his Bible. Family played a strong role in Leroy's life; the time spent together, entertaining his family through silly songs, all of the hunting they did well into his 70's and traveling, especially evening drives where he could listen to the night sounds. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, time with friends and he loved ice cream. He is survived by four children, Olive (Glen) Smith of Bucyrus, Dana (Rev. Gerald) Poff of London, Ohio, Rev. Keith (Susie) Hostutler of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Rev. Gregory (Pattie) Hostutler of Oak Hill, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren, Christopher (Kay) Smith, Monica (Jeremy-deceased) Johnson, Jared (Rebecca) Poff, Justin (Tracie) Poff, Janelle (John) Pate, Rev. Shane (Jackie) Hostutler, Ryan Hostutler, Rebecca (Nate) Summers, Rachael (Jeff) Gill, Joel (Lisa) Hostutler; 16 great grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Bert Allen Branham. Leroy was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Thelma Kathleen; both parents; a brother, Lawson and sister, Marjorie. His family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 at Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Crestline Church of the Nazarene, 500 E. Main St., Crestline, Ohio 44827 with both Rev. Keith Hostutler and Rev. David L. Greenich officiating. Friends are also welcome to visit with the family one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will follow the funeral in Oakwood Cemetery where full military rites will be provided by the U.S. Navy and American Legion Post 181 Honor Guards. Memorial contributions may be given to the Crestline Church of the Nazarene or the American Heart Association through the funeral home.
