Leonard George Morris, Sr.

Leonard George Morris, Sr., 95, of Oak Hill passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Born February 22, 1929 in Anstead, WV he was the son of the late Anise Gilbert and Nellie Pearl Morris.

George was a proud United States Army and Air Force Veteran fighting in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. worked for Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood, and in his leisure he enjoyed woodworking, working in his yard, he was a man of many trades and he could do anything. Most of all he was a loyal and faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as an usher, a trustee, sound system operator, and member of the senior circle at the church. He loved being in church and helping with whatever was needed, he never wanted to leave and go home.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years Frances Nell Settle Morris; son, Steve Morris; daughter, Vickie LaFaye; brother, Robert Morris; and sisters, Mary Brown and Betty Nottingham.

Those left to cherish his wonderful memory include; daughter, Trecia Barton (Bill); sons, Leonard Morris, Jr. (Connie),Tracy Morris (Peggy), Curtis Morris (Felicia), and Steve Settle (Glenna); daughter-in-law, Jane Morris; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brothers, Thurl Morris and Anise Morris, Jr.; and sisters, Eva Duncan and Shirley Lewis.

Funeral service will be 1:30 PM on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Hill with Pastor Delmas Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill.

Visitation for friends will be one hour prior to service at Calvary Baptist Church on Sunday, October 13, 2024.
