Lawrence Melvin Whitlock

Lawrence Melvin Whitlock , 87, of Oak Hill, WV died on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Beckley, WV. Born October 29, 1926 at Dewitt, WV he was the son of the late Edward and Lola Keenan Whitlock. He was a retired Truck Driver for Smith Transfer. Lawrence was a member of Mount Hope Lodge No. 103, A.F. and A.M. He served in the US Navy during World War II. Three brothers, Ralph Whitlock, Charles Whitlock and Bill Whitlock and a sister, Helen Stone preceded him in death. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Helen "Sissy" Vannatter Whitlock; one son, Larry Whitlock and wife, Cindy of Oak Hill and one sister, Margaret Spradlin. Also surviving are his four grandchildren, Mel Whitlock and wife, Gina of North Pole, Alaska, Stacey Ellison and husband, Brian, Jeff Whitlock of Oak Hill and Laura Whitlock of Oak Hill; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Mike Kees and Rev. Allen Gallimore officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
