Lawrence E. Spade

Lawrence Edward Spade, 81, of Mount Hope, WV died on Sunday, April 22, 2007 at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV. Born April 19, 1926 at Kilsyth, WV he was the son of the late Kyle and Ethel Staton Spade. Mr. Spade was a retired coal miner and mine owner, housing contractor and UMWA member of 60 years. He was a US Navy veteran and served on the ship USS Antietam CV-36 in 1945 during World War II. He was an avid golfer with his buddy, Ed Boyd. He was recently saved and a member of the Carlisle First Church of God. He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Hasty of Cincinnati, OH. Survivors include wife of 56 years, Joyce M. Warren Spade; two sons, Larry Spade and wife, Amy of Orlando, FL and Mark Spade and wife, Joy of Orlando, FL; two daughters, Janis Allen and husband, Richard of Mount Hope, WV and Diana Calvert and husband, David of Beckley, WV; grandchildren, Julie Arey and husband, Travis of Roanoke, VA, Amber Hart and husband, David of Midway, WV, Scott Calvert of Beckley, Brandon Allen and wife, Ashlee of Timberlake, NC and Sam Spade of Orlando, FL; two step-grandchildren, Shannon Wright or Orlando, FL and Melinda Thomas and husband, Phillip of Hagerstown, MD; three great grandchildren, Zachary, Marissa and Daniel Thomas of Hagerstown, MD; two sisters, Evelyn Behrens of Cincinnati, OH and Bettie Foster and husband, Paul of Oak Hill, WV and by several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Wednesday, April 25, 2007, from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM. Services will be on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope with Rev. Gene Bowen, Rev. Richard Allen and Rev. Marie Underwood officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity WV with military graveside rites by VFW Post #3110, Oak Hill.
