Kelly R. Williams, Sr.

March 5, 1928 — March 17, 2006

Kelly Ross Williams, Sr., 78, of Oak Hill, died March 13, 2006 after a short illness. Born March 5, 1928 at Meadow Bridge, WV he was the son of the late Kelly John and Nannie Julia Sims Williams. Williams was a former coal miner, a former employee of the Long-Airdox Company, and a Navy veteran. He was a member of the Shirley Donnelly Sunday School Class at the Oak Hill Baptist Church. Just before he died, class members honored him with a plaque that recognized his faithful attendance. He never missed a Sunday for 28 years until he became sick with cancer this year. His brother Mark Williams preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Nina Williams of Tornado, and his children and their spouses, Susan Williams and her husband, David Hartung, of Falls View, Kelly Williams, Jr. and his wife, Gerri Katz, of Morgantown, Gary Williams and and his wife, Diane, of Oak Hill, John and Williams and his wife, Lisa, of San Jose, California, and Polly and her husband, Michael Charbonneau of Mechanicsburg, Pa. He is also survived by his two grandchildren who were born within three days of each other: Violet Williams of San Jose and Joey Charbonneau of Mechanicsburg. Last fall, his granddaughter made her first trip to West Virginia, and he got to see Violet for the first time. During the fall trip, the two babies also got to see each other for the first time. He is also survived by his former wife, Agnes Hudson Williams of Oak Hill, who is the mother of his children. Five step-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren also survive him. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him dearly. He had a wonderful sense of humor, even to the end of his terrible illness. He was a good neighbor, and people enjoyed stopping by to sit on his porch and shoot the breeze. He was always giving of himself and never failed to help someone in need. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2006, at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with the Rev. David Sneed officiating. The family will welcome friends one hour before the service. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, WV.
