Kazymier "Charlie" Kurzyna

July 16, 1920 — April 10, 2009

Kazymier "Charlie" Kurzyna, 88, of Oak Hill, WV died on Friday, April 10, 2009 at his home following a short illness. Born July 16, 1920 in Chojnice, Poland, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Stella Czarnecka Kurzyna. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Wanda Canterbury Kurzyna; two brothers, Edward Kurzyna and Henry Kurzyna. Charlie was a kind a loving man devoted to his family. He was a retired coal miner and veteran of World War II. Charlie grew up in the New River Gorge area, living and working in several coal camps, including Kaymoor, Browns and Nuttalburg and retired from Cannelton Industries, Inc. in 1982. Left to cherish his memories are: two daughters, Karen McNulty and husband, Tom of Huber Heights, OH and Charyl Waugh and her fiancee, Gary Johnson of Oak Hill; two sons, Chuck Kurzyna and wife, Kathy of Beckley and John Kurzyna and wife, Ellen of Winston Salem, NC, and two sisters, Helen Pasnicky and husband, Johnny of Deland, FL and Irene Adkins of Ovieda, FL; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Monday, April 13 at 2:00 PM at High Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Pete Lokant officiating. Friends and family may call one hour before the service at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Wanda Canterbury Kurzyna on September 15, 2005.
