Kathryn (Kathy) Ann (Pittman) Buckland, 56, of Mount Hope, WV, finally won her long battle with Multiple Sclerosis on Friday, December 14, 2012. Kathy will be remembered as the fighter she was, and for not allowing her illness to keep her from bringing smiles to others with her boisterous laugh. She shared that laugh a few final times with her family and those caring for her at The Bowers Hospice House in Prosperity, WV, where she spent her last few days. Prior to being cared for by the staff with Hospice, her husband Ray, her dear friend, Margaret Wines, and sister-in-law, Drema Bonifacio, had cared for her over the years in the comfort of her own home. Kathryn was born September 25th, 1956 and raised in Bradley, WV. She was known by many as a spirited volleyball player, and active wife and mother, whose body begin to give out long before her larger than life personality ever did. Throughout the years, Kathy could be spotted at local dirt tracks supporting her husband and son as they raced. Just over 38 years ago, Kathy married her sweetheart, Jerry Ray Buckland. Vows were made to take one another to have and to hold from that day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from that day forward until death parted them. It is worthy to note, those vows were kept. Her husband Ray is left to share her memory with their son, Gregory Ray Buckland, his wife Jamie, and their three children, whom Kathy always referred to as her angels, Ethan Lane, Emma Rae, and Elsie Kay. Kathryn is also survived by her parents, Carl and Shirley Pittman; two brothers, Keith Pittman, and his wife Mindi of Windsor, SC, David Pittman, and his wife Tammy of Shady Springs; three sisters, Pam McMillion, and her husband Pat of Beckley, Debby Blevins, and her husband Joe of Crab Orchard, and Janice Cobb, and her husband Tommy of Ocala, FL; her mother-in-law Zetta Underwood; two brother-in-laws, Gary Buckland, and Roger Buckland and his wife Cathy of Oak Hill; three sister-in-laws, Connie Jewell of Jacksonville, FL, Margaret Williams and her husband Glenny of Bradley, and Drema Bonifacio of Bradley; her best friend, Joyce Hall, and numerous nieces and nephews. Kathy’s loved ones who left this earth before her are her paternal grandparents, Carl & Jennie Bell Pittman formerly of Maple Fork; her maternal grandparents, Curtis & Sadie Mays formerly of Beckley; her brother-in-law Eddie Jewell; and her niece Lori Weeks. Friends and family may come share as we celebrate her life on Sunday, December 16th at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope at 1 P. M., with the memorial service at 2 P. M. officiated by Pastor Clarence Plumley, Jr. In accordance to Kathy's desires, her cremains will be left with family to commemorate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer the generosity to be shown to The Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801 as a small token of appreciation for their generosity in Kathy’s final days.
