Karen Elaine Reed

Karen Elaine England (Reed), 70, from Beaufort, South Carolina and formerly of Mullens and Beckley WV,  left those she loved on Friday, March 15, 2024 at Bowers Hospice House with her partner and love, David Stone and her family by her side.  After fighting a valiant battle with cancer, Karen was welcomed to her heavenly home with open arms by those that preceded her in death.  The daughter of the late Matthew Abner and Norma Louise England, Karen was born on February 2, 1954 at Wyoming General Hospital, Mullens.  A 1972 graduate of Mullens High School and Wyoming County Vocational Technical Center, she served as a nurse in several healthcare facilities in Southern WV.  After leaving WV, Karen made her home in Beaufort SC., where she enjoyed the sand, sun and beaches.  Karen loved her family, friends and two puppies (Sugar Belle and Bear) beyond measure.  Favorite past times included reading, visiting Lancaster, PA, antiquing, old houses and flowers. Karen will forever be remembered for her ‘big beautiful eyes’ and a smile that would light up any room.

In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her Grandparents, Goodall and Nancy Elizabeth Lafferty, and John and Nancy England.  Her siblings, Cecil Dale England, Linda Stamper; Brothers in Law, Frank Peters and Robert Shireman; Sister in Law, Linda England; Grandson, Daniel McGrath; and  Nephew, Daryl Keith England.

In addition to her partner, David Stone, she is survived by her children: Stephanie (Jeremy) Ewing and Christy White Blake; Grandchildren: Jakob, Madison, Trista, Brianne, Savannah, and Nehemiah; Great Grandchildren, Killian and Kaia; and Johnny Hollingshead that she viewed as a son. Siblings: Bob (Vivian) England, Larry England, Jeff England, Drema Shireman, Zelda England-Peters, Susan (Truman) Wolfe, Beverly (Tim) Grose, Lee (Winnie) Radford.  Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews that she loved as her own. Special friends: Connie Moody and Sam Sizemore.

Very dear to Karen were her healthcare teams for which she was very thankful: Beaufort Radiology & Oncology, Dr. Briggs and Dr. Newberry; WVU Oncology: Dr. Brager and team; Southern WV Hospice; Bower Hospice House personnel and special nurses, Amanda Coalson, Carrie Thomas, Kara Snow, Lacey McKinney and Warren Ensminger

A service to celebrate Karen will be held  1:00 PM Monday, March 18th, 2024 at Bethel Freewill Baptist Church, MacArthur WV with Rev. Gary Mills and Rev. Bob England officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

In keeping with Karen’s wishes she will be cremated following the service.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Scott Stamper, Tim Stamper,  Nathan England, Justin England, Todd England and Ashton Zhookoff-Lutz.

The family requests donations in Karen's name be made to Bowers Hospice House, Prosperity, WV.

“When you die, it does not mean you lose to cancer.  You beat cancer by how you live, why you live and the manner in which you live.”
