Madylon Joyce Burgess Lester Grand , 85, lived the majority of her life in Oak Hill, WV. She died on Wednesday, November 04, 2015 at her granddaughter’s home (Holly Browning) in Charlotte, NC, after a long illness with breast cancer.
Born March 14, 1930 at Sanger, WV she was the daughter of the late Leslie Burt and Ruth Wilmer Burgess.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Portland Lester; second husband, Stanley J. Grand; and a daughter, Sandra Gaye Lester.
Joyce was a 1948 graduate of Oak Hill High School and a member of Grace Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
She loved crocheting, reading, writing, cooking, camping, boating, animals, spending time with her family and friends and above all she loved to talk.
Joyce retired from Martin Furniture. Early in her life she was a telephone operator, a bookkeeper for several places in town and also worked for State Farm Insurance. She was an exceptional care taker. After taking care of her mother and 2 husbands she took care of Thelma Fink until her death .She was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by a daughter, Pam Skaggs, two sons, Phillip Lester and William Lester; six grandchildren, Holly Foster Browning, Lynn Looney Alomar, Amy Lester, Amanda Lester Thompson, Jon Lester and Brianna Lester and seven great grandchildren. She left behind her beloved dog Foxie.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Delbert Walker officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
