Josephine E. Hughes Burgiss

At home surrounded by her children, Joesphine E. Graley Hughes Burgiss, 80 of Oak Hill, WV went home to see Jesus on Sunday, May 9, 2010 after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Born February 17, 1930 at McCorkle, WV she was the daughter of the late Boyd Clay and Minnie Mae Robinson Graley. Mrs. Burgiss attended the Summerlee Avenue Freewill Baptist Church in Oak Hill and was a homemaker. Her first husband, John Hughes; second husband, Walter Burgiss; sister, Wanda Wolfe; granddaughter, Clyntia Carpenter Wright and a great granddaughter, Leandra May Jackson preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Kay Carpenter of Ashland, KY and Linda Phillips of Eleanor; two sons, John L. Hughes of Oak Hill and Donnie Clay Hughes and wife, Judy Gay of Birmingham, Ala.; one brother, James Graley and wife, Fina of Niland, CA; thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Services will be on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Paul Allen and Randall Kinder officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
