Joseph Edward Mentz

Joseph Edward Mentz, Sr. , 70, of Oak Hill, WV was called home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 03, 2011. Born May 16, 1940 at Winding Gulf, WV he was the son of the late Homer Kelley and Emma Mohar Mentz. Joe retired from Pittston Coal Company after 35 years and a short time later went back and worked for DV Auto Electric. A very special blessing and thanks to Hospice of Southern West Virginia. A daughter, Veronica Sue Mentz, brother, Jack L. Mentz and sisters, Beverly Mentz and Bonnie McCall preceded him in death. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 33 years, Diana L. Wyatt Mentz; two daughters, Robin L. Backus of Oak Hill and Teresa O'Brien of North Carolina, a son, Joseph E. Mentz, Jr. of North Carolina, six grandchildren, Joseph D. Kelly, Vicktoria L. Kelly both of Oak Hill, Chris O'Brien, Morgan Mentz, Emily Mentz and Tanner Mentz all of North Carolina and two great grandchildren, Emma and Evee O'Brien. He is also survived by sisters, June Godbey of Pax, Dorothy Hodge of Florida, Molly Garbade of Maryland, Sharon Wilcox of Maryland and Cheyrl McKinney of Maryland, brothers, Teddy Mentz of Virginia and Rodger Mentz of Idaho as well as many other family members and friends. Funeral services will be on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Ron Miller and Rev. Sam R. Calloway, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
