Jon Dragan

Jon A. Dragan, 62, of Thurmond, WV died Saturday, February 12, 2005, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV after suffering a stroke. Born in Pennsylvania he was the son of the late John S. and Barbara Kopcak Dragan. Mr. Dragan was a whitewater rafting pioneer in Fayette County. He, along with his wife and brothers, started the state's first commercial rafting company, Wildwater Expeditions Unlimited in 1968. Jon is survived by his wife, Melanie, now the mayor of Thurmond; two children, Joshua and Melissa; brothers, Tom, Chris and David; and a granddaughter. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 17, 2005, at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, 345 Kelly Avenue, Oak Hill, WV. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Jon A. Dragan Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Leadership Fayette County, 310 Oyler Avenue, Oak Hill, WV 25901.
