Johnny Jay Thorne, Sr., 74, of Scarbro, WV died on Monday, July 12, 2021 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV.
Born January 31, 1947 in Price Hill, WV he was the son of the late George and Virginia Mills Thorne.
Johnny was a 1967 graduate of Mount Hope High School and a US Army veteran. His love of sports led Johnny to be involved in Joe Aiello Basketball, Midget League Football, and Oak Hill Little League Baseball.
He was a retired x-ray tech/transporter at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.
Infant siblings Milton Thorne, Dorothy Lorrine Thorne, Clara May Thorne, and Lily Thorne; and brothers and sisters, Flora Marie, Paul Edward Thorne, Margie, Thelma Jean, Thomas B. Thorne ,III and Euva L. Grubb all preceded him in death.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Clara Humphrey Thorne; two sons, Johnny "JJ" Thorne, II (Heather Roberts) and Scott Thorne (Holly Vance), siblings, Margaret J. Rice, Arthur L. Thorne, Jimmy R. Thorne, Sr., Frances K. Rice and Raymond L. Thorne; and grandchildren, Matthew Roberts, Connor Roberts, Kallee Thorne, Kaylee Thorne and Rhylynn Thorne.
A visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill on Saturday, July 17, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm after which Johnny will be cremated. Military honors will be conducted at 7:00 pm.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Tyree Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
