Johnny Carmelo Menei , 75, of Glen Jean, WV went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 21, 2011 his 75th birthday. Surrounded by his family, John passed peacefully at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV following an extended illness. Born August 21, 1936 at Tamroy, WV he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Sirna Romano Menei. John was a lifelong resident of Glen Jean. He was a US Air Force veteran and a former coal miner. He settled into retirement after 15 years with the National Park Service. Throughout his lifetime John enjoyed playing softball with friends and family as well as gardening and ginseng hunting. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Oak Hill and a member of the U.M.W.A. Sisters, Lucille D'Angelo, Josephine Huzoski and Angeline Vannatter preceded him in death. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of more than forty years, Carol Sue Ercole Menei, one son, John C. Menei and his fiance, Chauntel Kassab of Hilltop, daughter, Kimberly Menei-Ferrell and husband, Jack of Charleston, three brothers, Raymond Menei of Mount Hope, Vincent Menei of Mount Hope and Carmen D'Angelo of Mount Hope and one sister, Jeannie Kincaid of Mount Hope. Also surviving are three grandchildren, John Menei, III of Glen Jean, Morgan Clements and husband, Michael of Beckley and Samatha Randall-MacKay and husband, Jeremy of Hinton. John thought fondly of his friends at the National Park Service, especially dear friend Tom Poore. He also leaves behind nephews, Jimmy and Larry Kincaid as well as his two favorite sweethearts, that he loved dearly and who will continue to remember him in their hearts his great-granddaughters, Peyton Riley Clements and Paige Elisabeth MacKay as well as a host of other family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Oak Hill with Father Paul Yuenger officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope on Thursday, August 25, 2011 from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM with Prayer Service at 6:00 PM.
