John Carroll Whitt, age 91 of Knoxville, Tennessee, departed from this present life to receive his heavenly reward at 3 a.m., December 9, 2023.
He was born in Dothan, West Virginia on April 19, 1932 and was the son of George Nathan and Martelia Ann (Toney) Whitt. Having been united in marriage to Bonnie Lee on April 9, 1960 in Oak Hill, they shared more than 63 years of marriage.
Mr. Whitt served in the Army infantry during the Korean War and was attached to the 101st Airborne Division. Soon after returning from the military, he began working for Ford Motor Company in Cleveland, Ohio. Upon retirement, Mr. Whitt and his family moved to Tennessee.
He was a godly man, devoted to his family, and was a member of Crossroads Apostolic Church where he has served as a trustee and usher.
Mr. Whitt was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Whitt of Knoxville, Tennessee; his children, Teresa and Duane Uhls of Greeneville, Tennessee and David and Sherry Whitt of Knoxville, Tennessee and three grandchildren, Jacob Whitt, Elizabeth Uhls and Rhiannon Whitt. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charlie Whitt, Richard Whitt and two infant brothers, Willie and Jimmy Whitt; and sisters, Grace Sassman, Orpha Hamilton, Edith Polly Blair, Arbitus (Boots) Reed, and Anne (Pee-Wee) Duncan.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Crossroads Apostolic Church, 4111 McCloud Rd, Knoxville, TN 37938. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the church with Pastor Andy Hosack and Bishop Roger Gray officiating. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Peters Cemetery, Peters Road, Dothan, West Virginia. Online condolences may be left at www.mynattfh.com
