John T. "Pro" Mackey

John T. "Pro" Mackey of Oak Hill passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2014. He was born December 25, 1929 at Scarbro, WV. He was the son of the late Lula and John Mackey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Ann, infant son John Thomas, Jr., sister June Allison, brother James and sister Mary Gainer. John attended Oak Hill High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served two terms in the military, one in Germany and one in Korea. John worked for Consolidated Coal Company, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church, serving as usher for 45 years, member of the Men's Bible class, a Mason, Scottish Rite, Shrine Club of Fayette County, American Legion, VFW, Plateau Club of Oak Hill, former member of Oak Hill Lions Club and member of Honor Guard, VFW 3130. Survivors include one son, Joseph, of Myrtle Beach, SC and sister, Laura Nixon, Columbus, OH. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Oak Hill United Methodist Church, Oak Hill, WV with Dr. Charles Miller officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, WV with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018 and to CHS-OHHS Alumni, Box 426, Oak Hill, WV 25901.
