John Fredrick O'Dell Jr., 84, of Saint Albans, WV formerly of Oak Hill, WV died on Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at CAMA - General Division in Charleston, WV following a brief illness. Born September 05, 1920 at Oak Hill, WV he was the son of the late John Fredrick "Fred" and Alice Lewis O'Dell. He was a retired bus driver for Greyhound with 30 years service. John was a graduate of Oak Hill High School. He was a long time member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church before moving to Saint Albans at which time he became a member of the First Baptist Church in Saint Albans. He was an avid gardener and spent much of his life in Oak Hill tending to his beloved apple orchard. He served in the Pacific theater with the US Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Gladys Whitmer, Ruth Ann O'Dell, Ila Skaggs and Esther Phyllis Watkins and one brother, James Russell O'Dell. Survivors include wife, Maxine Nuckels Conner O'Dell; son, David O'Dell of Chicago, IL; step-daughter, Judy Conner Hsu and husband, James, of Charleston; two sisters: Orpha Jane O'Dell of Princeton and Mildred Fisher of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Luke, Jared and Marissa Hsu. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Friday, May 20, 2005, from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM and one hour prior to the service Saturday, May 21, 2005, at the church. Services will be on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at the Oak Hill Baptist Church. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill WV.
