John Kristin Navicki

February 28, 1970 — June 5, 2014

Surrounded by loving family and friends, John Kristin Navicki, 44, of Oak Hill died at Charleston Area Medical Center on June 5, 2014 following a four-year struggle with complications related to a stroke.

John was a 1988 graduate of Oak Hill High School where he served as Captain of the football and baseball teams. He also attended Concord College. He was an avid sportsman who played golf, bowled, and fished. These activities were especially meaningful to him when he was accompanied by his son, Jacob.

John’s outgoing personality, sense of humor, and passionate love of tales were assets to his chosen career as an operations manager at the Augusta National Golf Course in Augusta, Georgia. His profession allowed John the opportunity to share stories with fascinating, national and international guests attending the Masters’ Tournaments. While preparing for the 2010 Masters’ Tournament, John suffered a debilitating stroke. At that time, he returned to Oak Hill where he was tenderly cared for by his family and friends.

John is survived by his son, Jacob, a sophomore at Marshall University; his parents, Larry and Suellen Pinson Navicki of Oak Hill; a loving, attentive brother, Allen Navicki and his wife, Lee Ann of Oak Hill; two nieces, Julia and Alaina Navicki of Oak Hill, as well as a large extended family. John was blessed by the friendships of Gladys Smith and Gretchen Bradshaw of Oak Hill as well as that of his closest cousin and best friend, Dr. Scott Keffer of Victor.

He was preceded in death by his eldest brother, Lawrence E. (Nicky) Navicki; paternal grandparents, Frank and Julia Navicki; maternal grandparents, Benjamin and Katie A. Pinson, and his aunts and uncles.

In keeping with his wishes, John’s remains were cremated. A private memorial mass was celebrated for the family at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Oak Hill on June 11 by The Reverend Carlos Melocoton.

John’s friends and classmates as well as family friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life on Sunday, July 13, from 3 – 6 p.m. at the Three Gables Restaurant to share memories of John as we keep him forever alive in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in memory of John to the OHHS/CHS Alumni Association, PO Box 462, Oak Hill, WV 25901.
