John H. "Jack" Berry

John "Jack" Harold Berry , 87, of Oak Hill, WV died on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV. Only a short time ago, his wife, Cathern Leona Crawford Berry preceded him in death on February 11, 2011. Born April 22, 1923 at Pax, WV he was the son of the late John and Cecilia Dunbar Berry. Jack was employed by the New River Company and Sophia Electric Company as an electrician and superintendent. He was retired from Fairchild Mining Equipment Company. He was a proud veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Naval Armed Guard. Jack loved to cheer on the WVU Mountaineers and the Cincinnati Reds. He gardened and loved to fish, especially on Watts bar Lake in Tennessee. He was a member of the Summerlee Presbyterian Church and a loving husband, father and grandfather who cared deeply for his family. In addition to his wife, Cathern, and his parents he was preceded by brothers, William, James, Howard and Harold Berry and sisters, Catherine Rackley, Nellie Robinson, Evelyn Wofford and Elsie Neuman. Survivors include son, William H. "Bill" Berry and wife Mary of Grandview, daughter, Kaye Zemerick and husband, Darrell of Oak Hill, grandsons, Christopher Berry of Beckley, Danielle Pence and husband, Joey of Huntington, Scott Zemerick and wife, Cindy of Fairmont and Jeffrey Zemerick of Fairmont, three great grandchildren, and a sister, Beatrice Page of Oak Hill. Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Dr. Kenneth Atkins officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill on Friday, March 25, 2011 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Summerlee Presbyterian Church, PO Box 73, Oak Hill WV 25901.
