John H. Hager

January 26, 1930 — August 22, 2006

John Henry Hager, 76, of Mount Hope, WV passed away Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born January 26, 1930, at Longacre, WV he was the son of the late John T. and Ailene Jordan Hager. John was an active member of the Mt. Hope Baptist Temple. He was retired from Cannelton Coal Company, having also worked for New River Company, and was a member of the UMWA, District #17 and Local #8843 and was a US Marine Corps veteran. He had a great enthusiasm for life and enjoyed being with his family and friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a smile on his face and never met a stranger. John touched many with his generosity, humor, caring and zest for life. His courage and positive attitude during his illness carry a lesson for us all. He will be remembered with great love and sadly missed by the many whose lives he touched. His wife, Loraine F. McLain Hager; stepmother, Bessie Hager and two brothers, George (Jerry) Hager and Tom Hager preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving friend and companion, Margaret Hanks of Beckley; a son, John R. Hager and wife Susan of Beckley; a daughter, Janet Miller and husband Rick of Mt. Hope; a sister, Domigene Lowe of Pratt; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at the Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope, WV with Rev. Danny Richardson officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, WV. Friends may call Monday, August 21, 2006, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Family members will be pallbearers.
