John A. Flournoy, Jr.

John Alfred Flournoy, Jr., 51, of Mount Hope, WV passed away Friday, November 30, 2007 at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill, WV. He was born August 31, 1956 at DeFuniak Springs, Florida, he was the son of the late John A. Flournoy, Sr. and Ovie Driggers Flournoy Martin. John was a teacher and coach at Oak Hill High School. He first coached and taught at Mount Hope High School then served 16 years as head coach at Midland Trail High School followed by 2 years of coaching at Princeton High School. This was his first year at Oak Hill High School. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill. He was a graduate of Walton Senior High School, DeFuniak Springs, Florida and Concord College and received his master's degree from West Virginia University. Mr. Flournoy was also a member of WV Education Association and WV Schools Athletic Association. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He is survived by his wife, Gina Culicerto Flournoy; one son, Jack Flournoy of Mount Hope; three daughters, Nancy Whitehair and husband, James of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Kate Flournoy of Charleston, SC; Jamie Rubin and husband, Matthew of Cleveland, OH; one grandchild, Brynn Flournoy; two sisters, Wanda Flournoy of Pensacola, FL and Beth Kirkland of Mobile, AL. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill with Father Paul Yuenger officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Monday, December 3, 2007 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill, where a Prayer Vigil Service will be held at 6:00 PM. Pallbearers will be his son, Jack Flournoy, his father-in-law, Pete Culicerto, Scott Mandeville, Edward, Phillip, Daniel, Joseph, Kenneth, Robert, and Vincent Culicerto, and Mike Anderson.
