Joey Adkins , 76, of Fayetteville, WV died on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Encompass Health and Rehab in Princeton, WV.

Born August 30, 1944 in Toney Hollow, WV he was the son of the late Earl Hirl and Livie Mae Smith Adkins.

Joey was a US Army veteran serving from 1963 to 1966. He was a coal miner and member of the UMWA from 1969 to 1978. In 1978 he began working for MSHA as a Federal Mine Inspector - a job he held until 1999.

Three brothers, Harold Junior Adkins and wife, Nancy, Eddie Joseph Adkins and Franklin D. Adkins and wife, Anna Mae; sister-in-law, Debbie Adkins; brothers-in-law, , Paul Robinson, Bob Bills, Lenwood "Tready” Heath, Cotton Davis, and James Pritt and Butch Gay preceded him in death.

Joey leaves behind his loving wife, Rebecca Fernandez Adkins; three children, Kenneth Adkins and wife, Kelly, of Scarbro, Patty Adkins of Gatewood, and Teresa Adkins Larson and husband, Steve of Patterson, NC; and three grandchildren, Wyatt Adkins and fiancé, Allison Fitz of Morgantown, Madison Adkins of Johnson City, TN and Kayanna Larson of Patterson, NC.

Also surviving are brothers, Norman Ray Adkins and wife, Joyce, of Kinston, NC, Grover Lee Adkins and wife, Wanda, of Oak Hill, Bernice Dewey "Pete" Adkins and wife, Patty, of Michigan and Calvin Adkins of Scarbro; sisters, Lula Mae Robinson Bills of Gatewood, Bula Heath of Kinston, NC, Brenda Davis of Kinston, NC, Beatrice Jean "Jeannie" Tucker and husband, John and Shelia Pritt of Fayetteville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

It was Joey's wish to be cremated. There will be no visitation or service.
