Joe Steplowksi

Joe Steplowski, 91, of Bradley, WV went to be with his loving wife, Bertha on Sunday, June 18, 2006. Born April 02, 1915 at Barnesboro, PA he was the son of the late John Pete and Josephine Dering Steplowski. He worked as a coal miner for 38 years retiring from Slab Fork Coal. Mr. Steplowski was a member of the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill, UMWA District 29, Local 786, VFW Post 4326, Sophia/Midway, American Legion Post 32 Beckley, the AARP and a life-long member of the Moose Lodge #1664, Oak Hill. He had also served as treasurer for the Bradley Prosperity Fire Department for four years. Joe enjoyed gardening until he was no longer able then spent his time at home watching baseball, boxing and wrestling on television. He received an honorable discharge as Corporal in the US Army in 1945 having served during World War II in Germany, Central Eurpoe, Rome, South France and Africe. His wife, Bertha Marie Murdock Steplowski; four brothers, Stanley, Walter, Johnny and Steve Steplowski and a step-son, Jackie Murdock preceded him in death. Survivors include one son, Donald R. Steplowski and wife, Denise of Bradley; one daughter, Sandy L. Steplowski Graham of Harper Heights; three grandchildren, Tarin Steplowski Humphrey and husband, Jimmy of Mount Hope, Joseph Steplowski of Bradley and Denise Graham of Harper Heights and one great-granddaughter, Sandra Nicole Graham. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM with a prayer vigil at 6:30 pm. Services will be on June 21, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope with Father Paul Yuenger officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity WV with military graveside rites by VFW Post #4326, Sophia/Midway, WV.
