Joann Mclain Burgess

Joann McLain Burgess , 82, of Oak Hill, WV died on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV. Born July 14, 1929 at Oak Hill, WV she was the daughter of the late Jesse Stuart and Evelyn Beatrice Thomas McLain. Joann was a retired Clerk/Operator for CSX at Thurmond, Quinnimont and Hinton. She was a life-long member of the Jones Avenue First Church of God in Oak Hill where she played piano for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Women of the Church of God and worked in Children's Church for a number of years. Joann was a 1947 graduate of Oak Hill High School and a member of the OHHS/CHS Alumini Association. She was a former member of White Oak Chapter No 315 Brotherhood of Railway, Airline and Steamship clerks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Franklin Burgess on May 17, 2002 and her brother, Edward Hughes McLain. . Survivors include her only daughter, Merry Hanning and husband, Carl, of Oak Hill; two grandchildren, Mollie Ray and husband, Brian of Oak Hill and Paul E. Hanning and fiance' Jennifer Epling of Oak Hill and two great grandchildren, Bonnie Belle Ray and Lucy Lynne Ray both of Oak Hill. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Phyllis McLain of Jacksonville,FL several nieces, nephews, cousins and two aunts. Services will be on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with Rev. Ralph Shupe and Rev. Tonya Shupe officiating. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Friday from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM. Her cremains will be interred at Blue Jay Cemetery at Blue Jay, WV at a later date.
