Joann Dillon Boyd, 79, of Mount Hope, WV passed away Friday, December 5, 2008, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV following a long illness. Born November 11, 1929 at Lindside, WV, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Mary Ann Mann Dillon. Joann was raised by her grandparents the late Julia and William Mann. She spent her childhood years at Talcott, WV where she attended Talcott schools and graduated from Talcott High School in 1947. She worked for several years at the Talcott Post Office under the supervision of Mrs. Catherine Glass, who was a great mentor. She enjoyed working part-time at Webb’s of Mt. Hope Florist for over 30 years. She was a member of the Kilsyth Free Will Baptist Church, serving as Clerk-Treasurer of the church for 27 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, William Boyd; a sister, Julia M. Underwood; a brother, Doug Dillon; and a sister-in-law, Barbara J. Boyd. She is survived by two children, Pamela Jean Souk and husband, Eddie of Mount Hope, William Wallace Boyd, Jr. and wife, Barbara of Mount Hope; two sisters, Clara Lou Graham and husband, Jimmy of Clayton, Donna Wykle and husband, Ellery of Talcott; three brothers, Charles Dillon of Lehigh Acres, FL, John W. “Bill” Dillon and wife, Becky H. of Hilldale and Dale Dillon and wife, Drema of Talcott, a sister-in-law, Becky Dillon of Hilldale; a sister-in-law, Betty Thompson and husband, Leonard of St. Albans; three grandsons, Scott Souk, Matthew Boyd and Andrew Boyd, all of Mount Hope; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Service will be 2:00 PM Monday, December 8, 2008, at Kilsyth Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Burdette, the Rev. Bill Bennett, and the Rev. Carl Burrows officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Pallbearers will be Scott Souk, Matthew Boyd, Andrew Boyd, Joe Criss, Randy McNeely, Billy Joe Johnson, Frank Thompson and Jeff Thompson.
