Jerry Lee Dooley, Sr, 84, formerly of Oak Hill, WV died on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the Clarksburg, WV VA Medical Center. Born May 23, 1940, in Oak Hill, WV, he was the son of the late William Rexford “Rex” Dooley, Jr and Ruby Bruno Dooley of Oak Hill, WV and the late Clarence and Kathleen Williams of Oak Hill, WV. Kind, caring, loyal, and a fish slayer extraordinaire, Mr. Dooley loved the Lord, his family, his church, and the broken.
Mr. Dooley was a retired coal miner out of the UMWA local 1330 union and proudly served in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne Division out of Fort Bragg, NC while spending time in the Dominican Republic. Mr. Dooley was an active member of the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene until he was unable to attend and moved to Mannington, WV, and a supporter of many other local and national organizations throughout his life.
Mr. Dooley was preceded in death his wonderful wife of 45 years, the Silver Fox as he affectionately called her, Nora Ann Dooley, one son, Kenneth Frank Bowyer, three brothers, Kenneth Dooley of Grovetown, GA, Richard "Ricky" Dooley and William “Bill” Dooley both of Oak Hill WV and two sisters, Dorothy Owens and Carol Purdue of Oak Hill.
Those left to continue his legacy include his five remaining children, James Bowyer of Hico, WV, Nancy (Ed) Higginbotham of Scarbro, WV, Frank Bowyer of Oak Hill, WV, Ronnie (Bob) Cogar of Fairmont, WV, and Jerry Dooley, Jr. of Mannington, WV. One brother, Raymond Butler of Oak Hill, WV and three sisters, Betty Castleman of MI, Sherry (Danny) Painter, and Karen Lefevers of VA. Additionally, seventeen grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild continues to blaze the legacy.
Special thanks to the Clarksburg, WV VA Hospital for excellent care provided in all areas during his last four days. Special thanks to Dr. Salah Ud Din Safi and his great oncology team at WVU Medicine’s Cancer Institute for great care they provided and no doubt they will help defeat blood cancer!
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Benjamin Bleigh officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity with military rites performed by the Wyoming County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill on Sunday, March 30, 2025, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
