Jefferson "Jeff" Davis

Jefferson Lee Davis, 59, of Beaver, WV died on Monday, January 09, 2006 at CAMC - General Division in Charleston, WV. Born December 13, 1946 at Summerlee, WV he was the son of the late John Toney and Edna Marie Sutphin Davis. Jeff was currently a Deputy Director for the WV Public Service Commission, Weight Enforcement. He was a retired WV State Police Major having been with the department from May 1968 thru August 1994. Major Davis was a graduate of the 18th Cadet Class WV State Police Academy in 1968. He served as a trooper at the South Charleston and Whitesville detachments and as an undercover officer at Beckley. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1981 and served as Detachment Commander at Whitesville. Following his promotion to First Sergeant in 1988 he was with the WV Turnpike at Beckley and then was promoted to Captain in charge of Company E, now Troop 7, Headquarters in 1991. He was promoted to Major OIC - Field Operations in 1992 where he served until his retirement. He was a graduate of Collins High School, Oak Hill and a 1978 graduate of WV State College with a degree in Criminal Justice. A Vietnam veteran, he served as a Sergeant with the US Army. He was a member of the Beckley Masonic Lodge #95, A.F.&A.M. and York Rites Chapter #38 and was an avid golfer. Two brothers, John Dale Davis and Jack Davis preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Ann Mullins Davis; two sons, Jeff Lee Davis and wife, Lori, of Beaver and Jerry Lee Davis of Grandview, WV; three brothers, Jimmy Davis and wife, Emma, of Oak Hill, WV; Jerry Wayne Davis of Texas and Joel Davis of Summerlee, WV and by his loving grandson, Cass Lee Davis. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, 999 Jones Avenue, Oak Hill, WV on Thursday, January 12, 2006, from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Services will be on Friday, January 13, 2006, at 11:00 A.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with cremation to follow.
