Jane Nicholls Burk

August 6, 1930 — June 12, 2016

A Nurse's Prayer
Let me dedicate my life today, in the care of those who come my way.
Let me touch each one with a healing hand and the gentle art for which I stand.
And then tonight when day is done, let me rest in peace if I've helped just one.

Jane Ann Burk, 85, of Oak Hill passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2016. Born at home in Carlisle, West Virginia on August 6, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Richard Paul and Margaret Murray Nicholls.

In addition to her parents, Jane was proceeded in death by her husband, Jack Burk, and her brothers Fred , Samuel and Paul Nicholls.

Jane attended the University of Virginia School of Nursing and spent her life as an RN working first in New York City at New York Presbyterian Hospital in the Payne-Whitney Psychiatric Division and then as the tuberculosis nurse coordinator for the state of West Virginia. Jane also served as a Fayette County Health Nurse until her retirement in 1988 after 27 years of service.

After retiring from nursing, Jane and her husband, Jack, worked tirelessly as volunteers for the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce and New River Gorge Convention and Visitors Bureau where Jane helped coordinate the Bridge Day vendors and did so without a computer.
