James W. Walker , 89, of Oak Hill, WV died on Sunday, May 18, 2003 at his home following a six month battle with liver cancer. Born March 13, 1914 at Prudence, WV he was the son of the late George L. and Sallie McVey Walker. Mr. Walker was a retired coal miner who began his career at age 18 with the Prudence Mining Company. He worked in various mines in Fayette, McDowell, Nicholas and Pocahontas Counties but spent the majority of his work years as Mine Foreman at Minden. He was a caring, compassionate person who regularly supported many local, state and national organizations. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his adored, beloved wife, Barbara Ellen Rainey Walker on August 6, 1999 Survivors include Daughters: Patricia Ann Sumner and husband, John of Parkersburg Marylu Walker of Oak Hill Sandra Parente of Gerogetown, PA Grandchildren: Kenny Wayne Sumner, Marietta, GA Terri Sumner Romine and husband, Mark of Elizabeth Tammi Sumner Woodrum and husband, John of Nallen 3 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and by a very special caregiver, Delores Yost Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, on Monday, May 19, 2003, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Services will be on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. Bill Menefee and Rev. Bill Drennenofficiating. Burial will be at Plateau Historical Cemetery (formerly I.O.O.F. Cemetery), Oak Hill, WV.
