James Lawrence Pettit

James "J.L." Lawrence Pettit, 94, of Oak Hill, WV died on Monday, May 24, 2004 at the home of his son, Lawrence Ray Pettit, in Oak Hill, WV following a short illness. Born May 13, 1910 at Mount Hope, WV he was the son of the late William Bruce and Isabella Twaddle Pettit. Mr. Pettit was a member of the Oak Hill First Presbyterian Church and attended the Oak Hill Alliance Church. In 1947, he started his own plumbing business, J.L. Pettit Plumbing and Heating. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Maye Spradlin Pettit, three brothers and one sister. Survivors include sons, Lawrence Ray (June) Pettit of Oak Hill and Jack Preston (Lois) Pettit of Lugoff, SC; grandchildren, Kenneth Lawrence (Linda) Pettit of La Fayette, NY and James Preston Pettit of Mt. Nebo; great grandson, Justin Lawrence Pettit of La Fayette, NY and by a niece, Carroll Beavers of Clifton Forge, VA. Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Wednesday, May 26, 2004, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Services will be on Thursday, May 27, 2004, at 11:00 am at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Rev. Fredrick Joseph, Rev. Albert Bowman and Rev. Diarmuid O'Hara officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill WV.
