James Harold Jewell, age 71, of Maple Fork passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at CAMC General Division in Charleston, WV. Born April 30, 1943 at Maple Fork, WV, he was the son of the late Bill and Barbara Tyree Jewell. James was a retired heavy equipment operator in the coal industry and a member of the UMWA. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Jewell, Billy Jewell and by two sisters, Frances Vandall and Irma Rorrer. Surviving are his wife, Karen Denettie Burress Jewell, his three daughters, Debra Ann Prunest and husband Keith of Goldsboro, NC, Jamie Lynn Harrington and husband Dan of Largo, FL, Tammy Sue Hill of Knoxville, TN, two step children, Tina Miranda of Georgia and James Hylton of Athens, GA, one sister, Irene Long of Lewisburg, his former wife and mother of his children, Ann Snyder of Knoxville, TN., eight grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren. Also surviving is his life long friend, Paul Roop, Sr. of Maple Fork Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope with Pastor Dan Harrington and Paul Roop, II officiating. In honoring James' wishes he will be cremated following services. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, July 5, 2014 one hour prior to services.
