James B. Hess

Mr. James B. Hess, 90 of Warm Springs, GA formerly of Oak Hill, WV died May 5, 2005 at the St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA. Born November 1, 1914 at Oak Hill, WV he was the son of the late Meredith C. "Mack" and Edith Bessie Potter Hess. He moved to Warm Springs in 1987 after his retirement having been an accountant for 27 years and real estate broker for 35 years in Oak Hill. Mr. Hess was a graduate of Lees-McCrae College in Banner Elk, NC and attended Roanoke (VA) Business College. He was a World War II US Army veteran and recipient of the Bronze Star. He was former executive director of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of the Fayette Plateau Business Development Corporation for 20 years; secretary of the New River Gorge National Park Committee working actively to make the New River Gorge area a national park; former member of the Oak Hill City Council; member of the Fayette County Building Commission and in 1985 was named Fayette County "Old Timer" Sportsman of the Year. Jim was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Manchester First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Theda M. Oyler Hess; one son, Michael T. Marshall and wife, Jeanenne, of Shawnee, KS; one daughter, Diana "Susie" Faulkner and husband, Jim, of Warm Springs; one granddaughter, Sara Faulkner of Warm Springs; one sister, Edith Martin of Kissimmee, FL and one brother, M.C. Hess, Jr. of Roanoke, VA. It is respectfully requested that flowers be omitted and that those desiring make memorial contributions to the Manchester First United Methodist Church. Graveside rites and committal service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, WV with Rev. Ray McClung officiating.
