James Arden Gravely, 88, of Oak Hill, WV died on Saturday, March 07, 2009 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV. Born June 06, 1920 at Beury Mountain, WV he was the son of the late Homer and Ellen Matheny Gravely. Mr. Gravely was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oak Hill. He was a graduate of Fayetteville High School and received an associate degree from the University of Maryland. Arden served his country during World War II as a pilot in the US Air Force. After retiring from service he was a weapons instructor for 20 years at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, CO. While residing in Colorado he was a member of the Officer's Club and the Bronco Quarterback Club. Arden was an avid golfer whose proudest accomplishment was having made three hole-in-one shots. Two brothers, Alvin and Saunine Gravely preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Catherine Paris Gravely; sister-in-law, Doris Shockey of Fayetteville; nephew, David Shockey of Oak Hill; two nieces, Bonnie Hill and husband, Col. Howard Hill and Jacqueline Eye all of Teays Valley and two special great nieces, Andrea Hill Thornton and husband, Brad of Vacaville, CA and Katherine Eye of Huntington. In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Gravely was cremated. A memorial service will be on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Oak Hill with Dr. Kenneth Atkins officiating. Online condolences may be sent at
