James Lewis Davis

James Lewis Davis, 65, of Oak Hill, WV died on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Beckley, WV. Born February 25, 1945 at Sanger, WV he was the son of the late John Toney Davis and Edna Marie Sutphin Davis. Jim was a 1962 graduate of Collins High School in Oak Hill and graduated from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College in June 1976 with a Certificate in Business Supervision. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country from July 27, 1962 through June 23, 1966. He was stationed on the USS Mountrail (ABA) in Norfolk, VA and attained the rank of E45. He was a member of the VFW in Covington, VA. Mr. Davis was hired by Mead Westvaco in 1966 as a laborer and worked his way to power shift engineer. He retired after 39 years on April 1, 2005. An avid golfer, Jim held memberships at The Homestead and Allegheny Country Club and was currently a member of the White Oak Country Club in Oak Hill. Three brothers, John Dale Davis, Jack Davis and Jefferson L. Davis preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Emma Lopinsky Davis; son, James L. Davis, III and wife, Traci of Midlothian, VA; daughter, Alisa Hayslett and husband, Brian of Covington, VA; stepdaughter, Shelley Higgins and husband, Alex of Powhatan, VA; two brothers, Jerry Wayne Davis of Houston, TX and Joel Davis of Summerlee and five grandchildren, Makenzi and Will Davis; Drew Hayslett; and Kayla and Bryce Higgins. Services will be on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Father Paul Yuenger officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Ray Fleming, Ed Srednicki, Jason Lopinsky, Gunny Price, Paul Lopinsky and Jeff Lee Davis will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations of sympathy be made to the charity of your choice.
