James Alvin Barker,Jr.,82, of Annapolis, Maryland, formerly of Oak Hill went to be with the Lord in Annapolis, Maryland on Friday, July 23, 2004 after a long battle with cancer. Born on March 8, 1922 in Beckley, WV, to the late James A. Barker of Axton, Va. and the late Nora Lilly Barker Marshall and the late Olin Marshall. Loving husband of 49 years to the late Jean Woods Barker. He is survived by his three daughters, Linda Walker and husband, Larry of Annapolis, MD, Carol Walker and husband, Nicky of Annapolis, MD, and Anita Broome and husband, Rich of Albuquerque, NM; four granddaughters, Lisa Flieger and husband, Kevin and Marissa Babel and husband, James all of Annapolis, MD, Ashley Broome and Caitlin Broome of Albuquerque, NM, and five great grandchildren; three sisters, Jeannne Gravely of Beckley, Betty Collins of WV/FL and Lucy Moose of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Eddie Marshall of Beckley. He served six years with the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific and Solomon Islands. He was an aviation machinist Mate First Class on USS Wasp, which was torpedoed and sank. After the war he was stationed in Hawaii and served as a fireman for the Navy. He retired from Appalachian Power Company as plant manager of the Scarbro substation, where he was also a former linesman. Jim was a fun loving and happy man who will be missed deeply by all his family and friends. Funeral will be 2 PM Tuesday, July 27, at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Hill with Rev. David White officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Prosperity where VFW Post #3110 will conduct military rites.
