James Patrick Allen

James Patrick Allen, 89, of Oak Hill, WV passed away at his residence on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Mr. Allen was a retired Agent for Peoples Life Insurance Company and a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was also a Lay Speaker and had served as Pastor of the Harvey United Methodist Church for 7 years. Mr. Allen was also a member and Past Master of Oak Hill Lodge #120 A. F. & A. M. of Oak Hill and a member and Past High Priest of Sewell Chapter #24 R.A.M. and had served as Secretary of both bodies for over 40 years. He was a Past Commander of Mount Hope Commandery #22 K. T. and had served as Recorder of the Commandery for many years. He was also a member and Past Patron of Oak Hill Chapter #107, O.E.S. where he served several terms. Additionally, Mr. Allen was Past Grand High Priest of the Most Excellent Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of West Virginia, and Past Commander of the Grand Commandery of West Virginia, a member of the Knights of the York Cross of Honor, The Order of the Red Cross of Constantine, Past President of the Convention of Anointed High Priests of West Virginia and the Chaplain of V.F.W. Post 3110 of Oak Hill. Born March 16, 1921 at Prudence, WV, he was the son of the late Earl H. and Biddie Dalton Allen. Mr. Allen was also preceded in death by his wife, June Lane Allen and brothers, Eugene and Burl Allen. Surviving are his daughters, Brenda Allen of Oak Hill and Sara Morgan Stephenson of San Antonio, Texas, grandchildren Susan Hobart, Lane Dobscha, Jimmy Boothe, II. And Mallory Boothe, great grandchildren, Haven Hobart, Gage Hobart, Abby Boothe and Zach Boothe, and one brother, Deward ?Charlie? Allen of Cleveland, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A M. Monday, February 21, 2011 at the Harvey United Methodist Church with Dr. Charles Miller and Revs. Hilda and Al Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens with Masonic Graveside Rites and military honors by Oak Hill V.F.W. Post 3110. Friends may call at the Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, Sunday, February 20, 2011 from 7 until 9 p.m. and at the church one hour before services.
