Irene Kirby Brown

March 9, 1927 — April 18, 2005

Mary Irene Kirby Brown, 78, of Oak Hill, WV died Monday, April 18, 2005, at her home following a long illness. A lifelong resident of Fayette County, Irene is survived by J. Ike Brown, her devoted husband of 57 years; her children, Debra Brown Brewer and husband, Michael, of Fayetteville and Rita Brown DeAth and husband, William, of Fayetteville, five grandchildren, Matthew Ike Brewer, Scott McCutcheon Brewer, John Kirby Brewer, Phillip Lee DeAth and Bailey Irene DeAth and one great grandchild, Keelan Montani Brewer. Irene is also survived by her two sisters, Phyllis Kirby Hanna and husband William, of Waynesboro, VA and Sarah Harris of Virginia Beach, VA; one brother, Robert W. Kirby and wife, Janice, of Charlton Heights and her beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Bette K. Kincaid on March 28, 2005. Born March 9, 1927 at East Gulf, WV she was the daughter of the late Robert William Kirby, Sr. and Marie Edna Bowman Kirby. Irene was devoted to her family. Hers was a well lived life. She enjoyed playing bridge with her special friends and traveling and golfing with J. Ike. She was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church. Surrounded by her loving family a bedside service was officiated by the Rev. Roy Gene Crist. Irene quietly and bravely endured the ravages of Alzheimers Disease for many years and it is the family's hope through the donation of her earthly remains to the Human Gift Registry of the WV School of Osteopathic Medicine, Lewisburg, there will be a foundation for a doctors skill and knowledge. There will be no visitation or additional service. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in Irene's memory to the Alzheimers Foundation of Southern West Virginia, 1111 Lee Street East, Charleston, WV 25301.
