Iona M. Miller Burgess Cummings

Iona Mildred Miller Burgess Cummings , 92, of Mechanicsville, VA died on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Memorial Regional Hospital in Mechanicsville, VA. Born April 15, 1921 at Oak Hill, WV she was the daughter of the late Newton C. and Roxie Etta Cummings Miller. Mrs. Cummings was a retired bookkeeper for having worked for Fayette Motor Company. She was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, was a member of the Bertie Blake Circle and the Donnelly Sunday School Class. Iona was a 1939 graduate of Oak Hill High School and a long-time member of the OHH/CHS Alumni Association. Her first husband, Garvis H. Burgess (March 30, 1985) and second husband, Roger White Cummings (Jan. 27, 2013) preceded her in death as did brothers, Gaines Miller, Paris Miller, Ralph Miller and Kellis Miller and sisters, Louise Legg and Melva Stokes. Survivors include her only daughter, Joyce Kincaid and husband, Carroll of Mechanicsville, VA and a sister, Betty Kennedy of Oak Hill. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Daniel Kincaid, Scott Kincaid and wife, Rose and Crystal Lewis and husband, Johnny, and three great grandchildren, Matthew Kincaid, Rachel Kincaid and Hannah Lewis. Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. David Sneed officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Oak Hill Baptist Church, 613 Lundale Drive, Oak Hill WV 25901.
