Herbert Reed , 84, of Oak Hill, WV died on Thursday, June 25, 2015 in Oak Hill, WV of Alzheimer's related complications.
Born July 13, 1930 at Iaeger, WV he was the son of the late Henry and Amanda "Mandy" Blevins Reed.
Mr. Reed grew up in Coon Branch Hollow, McDowell County. He was hard working West Virginia coal miner who loved bluegrass music and was an avid runner long before it was a popular activity.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Hospice and especially to John and Barbara Kinley for their loving care along with his other caregivers, Kathy Roles and Cindy Sears.
His wife of 58 years, Marlene Bailey Reed preceded him in death on January 31, 2013. He was also preceded by brothers, Sherman Reed and Ezra Reed and sisters, Cora Bailey and Chloe Reed.
Survivors include children, Peggy (Bill) Fink of Oak Hill, Henry "Bud" (Diane) Reed of Rhodell, Herbert "Pete" Reed of South Carolina, Donald (Connie) Reed of Roderfield and David (Mary) Reed of Tennessee; and a sister, Fozie (Billy) Puckett of Raysal.
Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
Graveside rites will be on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at Iaeger Memorial Cemetery in Roderfield with a eulogy by Donald Reed Burial will follow.
Friends may call at the Roderfield Christian Church on Monday from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM.
